Education and Women Empowerment

Women’s education plays a very crucial role in the development of any country. It not only helps in the development of half of the human resources altogether but also upgrades the quality of life at home and outside. There are many definitions of education but the definition given by M. Phule is the most significant one. According to him, “Education is that which demonstrates the difference between what is good and what is evil.” This means that education is the modification of every perspective of human behavior. Simultaneously, educated women provide better guidance to their children and family.

In the Vedic period, there was no attention on women’s education and women gradually lost the right to education in almost every part of the country. But, in the British period, there was an amelioration of interest in women’s education in India. For this cause, many socio-religious movements were led by distinguished persons like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, and many more. After the independence in 1947, there was a sudden in the thought process of people and the government took various measures to support and encourage women’s education in every part of the country. As a result, women’s literacy rate has grown over the decades and been higher than the male literacy rate.

Role of Education in Women Empowerment:

The concept of women empowerment was made known in 1985 at the international women’s conference at NAIROBI. For many generations, women have been denied equal access to many opportunities. The rise of feminism, however, led to the vast improvement in women’s condition in many parts of the country. Education as means of women’s empowerment will bring many positive changes in society. Some of them are as follows:

  • Education will aware women of their rights and will empower them to seek gender equality.
  • They would be independent as they can earn which will raise their status and economic condition in society.
  • Educated women would be able to provide better guidance to their children.
  • Education will enable women to respond to challenges and changes in their life.

Education is one of the best ways to spread awareness about women’s empowerment. It not only educates a person but also develops a sense of self-worth and how vital they are for society. Self-awareness, financial independence, and satisfaction are among the many things that can be ensured by education. It will work on every aspect of women’s personality and enables them to take big decisions and responsibilities in life. We are living in the 21st century, and women are performing well in every field, empowering more women is truly essential. Many obstacles are coming between in making all women educated and some of the major ones are prevailing prejudices, low number of girl child in schools, and early marriages.

According to the latest census, there is a wide gap between female literacy rate and male literacy rate, which further reduces in rural parts of the country. Several studies showed that distantly located schools and lack of safety on the way of schools are major obstacles in rural areas. The urgent need is to establish a safe environment for every girl child in rural areas.

However, e-learning is improving the conditions of many remote rural areas. Many apps for teaching online are improving the quality of education in rural areas. It levels the education by providing an equal and accessible platform to every girl child in rural areas. They can study from valuable teachers by just sitting at home with the help of an online classes app for teachers.

The main problem faced by the girls in rural areas is that they must be enrolled in the school in beginning. But in e-learning, they can enroll whenever they want to start from scratch by online applications. It is important to understand the need for quality education, not education. Many rural areas lack quality of education, which makes every girl child suffer as they come to less safe areas just because they want to be educated. In this situation, an app for teaching online plays a very essential role in delivering quality education.

“If you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a nation”

The importance of education in an individual’s life cannot be overstated. It helps an individual become independent and it plays a pivotal role in character development and the development of the whole economy. To bridge the gap that exists between the educated and the uneducated, online education platforms have been a great help. Once quality education becomes accessible to all, the nation would develop. Women empowerment and education do go hand in hand and with the advent of digital education, people can now access education from the comfort of their homes. All this acts as a springboard for better education.

Here we can conclude that women play an imperative role in the development of any nation. Through education, women are not only empowered to make more reliable decisions about their health and future but the society in its entirety is raised by a greater presence of female voices.
