Chronographs are easily one of the most recognized watch complications today. They are useful in various situations including calculating your average speed, measuring your heart rate, and coordinating air traffic. Such complications have helped write the legacy of some of the horological powerhouses we know today, one being the Swiss luxury watchmaker, Breitling.
Léon Breitling started the company in 1994 by developing pocket watches, which helped the business earn an unmatched reputation within a short time. Later on, Breitling focused on chronographs, which, during that time, were in demand for the military, among other applications. But, what separated the brand from its competitors is its sleek design, straightforward manufacturing process, and easy maintenance.
Today, Breitling continues to attract fans like moths are attracted to flames. In celebration of its connection between chronographs, it recently unveiled a new Premier Heritage collection, which features three timepieces inspired by its historic 1940 Premier Chronographs.
Introducing the New Breitling Heritage Collection
The new heritage-inspired collection draws inspiration from the brand’s original founding managers: three generations of men who made history in the watchmaking industry and made Breitling what it is today.
It pays homage to its legacy of developing the modern chronograph and boasts a stylish modern twist that revives some of the brand’s most successful innovations: the patented simple timer/tachymeter that could measure speed from 15-150km/h (Léon Breitling, 1889); the world’s first wrist chronographs with a separate pusher at 2 o’clock (Gaston Breitling, 1915); and the patented, second independent chronograph pusher at 4 o’clock (Willy Breitling, 1934).
The latest generation of Premiers includes six watches under three different categories: The Chronograph, The Duograph, and The Datora. Each features Arabic numerals, vintage-inspired hands, alligator straps, a COSC-certified chronometer, and water-resistant capability of up to 100 meters.

Premier Heritage Chronograph 40
Similar to its 1940 predecessors, the 40mm Premier Heritage Chronograph is manually wound. It runs on the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B09 and is available in two eye-catching variations: one with a pistachio green dial in a stainless steel case and gold-brown strap and another with a silver dial encased in 18K red gold and finished with a dark brown strap.
A pistachio green dial seems more like a bold choice, particularly when deep emerald colors are more favored by watch enthusiasts than pastel shades. The reference offers modern conveniences, like a 70-hour power reserve, without compromising its vintage flair.
Premier Heritage Duograph 42
The Duograph 42 is the latest, updated version of the 1944 watch of the same reference. The Duo in its name refers to the doubled-up chronograph hands that make up part of the rattrapante (from the French word “rattraper” meaning to “catch up”) function—one of the most elaborate complications that allow a watch to measure two elapsed times simultaneously.
The two variations here aren’t quite as bold as the pistachio green dial in Chronograph. But, they are just as exquisite with the black dial, 18K red gold case version, and a blue dial, stainless steel one. Each has an impressive power reserve of up to 70 hours.
While the new version has received a full modern refit, it retains Duograph’s key vintage elements such as the layout and hand styling.
Premier Heritage Datora 42
Concluding the new heritage collection is the 42mm Datora, which stands out for its complex functions, like the day, date, and moon-phase displays. Over the years, it has been updated and changed with models like the Montbrilliant released sometime in the 50s.
Today, it sports a copper-colored dial encased in stainless steel, while its silver dial version comes in an 18K red gold case. Both versions measure 42mm in diameter with Caliber B25 movement and approximately 42-hour power reserve.
Between the six new references, prices range from $8,400 for the steel hand-wound, pistachio green dial-colored Chronograph to more than $25,000 for the Premier Datora in 18K red gold. Of course, you can always browse other luxury timepieces from the Swiss brand—they boast a wide selection of sports watches, aviation watches, and dive watches, to name a few. These timepieces are purposely designed for extreme endurance and adventure, each equipped with safety and survival instruments that can resist even the most intense conditions on land, air, and sea. You can find other Breitling watches with prices ranging from $3,000 to $9,000 or more.
A Breitling Premier Heritage Timepiece for You
The new Heritage collection is a celebration of the 1940s—a golden age for Breitling chronographs. It reflects the quintessential qualities of chronographs of the past, capturing the same essence of refinement the brand is known for years. All three models are a worthy homage to the brands’ heritage, highlighting its mastery of timekeeping that evolved over three generations.
